Channelling Influences & Being Creative in Small Spaces
(Sponsored by Fujifilm-X series) :
How are we influenced and inspired? By our fellow photographers? Or by the wider field of art, design, modern media and advertising.
The greatest challenge to us is to remain creative. David A Williams started making self-commissioned images in homage to the Old Masters as a means of maintaining and enhancing his creativity and keeping him in touch with all the glorious pictures that inspired, and continue to inspire him. These he named ‘MasterWorks’
David will discuss how ideas resurface in advertising, and how these same ideas become homages. See and learn about how famous (and not-so-famous) images enjoy a resurgence in magazines as art directors search for ‘something new’.
He will also discuss how to analyze a ‘style’ and demonstrate how to apply it to a new image. David will also show how to use inexpensive props to dramatically alter a shoot, and even how to light it using inexpensive products.
Drawing from many of the greats across time and across all artistic spheres, David also ponders the question of ‘Are we in fact creating products to impress and challenge other photographers? Or are we taking the time to look into the world of the clients we want, and how they see photography’.
David will source, explain and produce in class three homage images from a current magazine. Bring your notepad and your enthusiasm.
David has ‘been at it’ for a good thirty years. He is an Australian-born second generation photographer. Since his move to Toronto, he has won PPOC wedding album of the year twice. He is a Master of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (II), a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, a Master of the WPPI Honours System, and a recipient of the Accolade Lifetime Achievement Award, also from WPPI.

Modern Beauty/Glamour portrait session – Creating an empowering experience (Includes live Demo)
By: Trevor Sherwin
Anyone can take photos of a person… How do you make a portrait session an experience for your clients? How do you get someone to open up to your lens? As a boudoir photographer, I have one of the most difficult jobs when it comes to portraiture because I have to not only get people to open up and feel comfortable; I have to do it with them in their underwear or less. I want to take you through how I make a session with Provocateur Images an experience right from the client preparation, through the direction I provide in the session and the finishing touches to make them feel like they belong on the cover of a magazine no matter what they look like.
"I’m Trevor and I run Provocateur Images, a luxury boudoir boutique studio in Toronto. I’ve been shooting for 10+ years and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’ve been a photo nerd for as long as I can remember and could you ask for a better job? I mean, where else do you get to change how people see themselves? Nowhere!"
